The Gear VR is a mobile VR headset created by Oculus and Samsung. The headset is the first “mobile” VR system that is powered by your phone (no computer required). The first consumer edition was released in November of 2015. It is compatible with many Samsung phones. This marks the first official consumer release of a mobile VR headset.
The headset features a 101 degree field of view, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and a 2560 x 1440 pixel Super AMOLED display. The device currently competes with Google’s Daydream View headset, which is also a mobile smartphone headset.
